The Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales (www.lgbc-wales.gov.uk) has published its 'REVIEW OF ELECTORAL ARRANGEMENTS DRAFT PROPOSALS' for the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taff. The report provides the Boundary Commission's initial recommendations which include combining the Talbot Green ward of Llantrisant with Pontyclun to form a proposed new electoral division with the working name Pontyclun which would be represented by 3 councillors.
Residents who wish to comment on these proposals (see extract of the Report below)should send their observations not later than 30 March 2010 to:

Extract from Report:
Talbot Green and Pontyclun
5.42 Talbot Green electoral division consists of the Talbot Green ward of the Community of Llantrisant and has 1,992 electors (2,119 projected) represented by 1 councillor which is 14% below the current county average of 2,304 electors per councillor. Pontyclun electoral division consists of the Community of Pontyclun which has 6,022 electors (6,648 projected) represented by 2 councillors. This gives a level of representation of 3,011 electors per councillor which is 31% above the current county average of 2,304 electors per councillor. We consider that it would be desirable, if possible, to re-arrange the combination of communities and community wards that form the electoral divisions in this area in order to achieve improvements in electoral parity.
5.43 Combining Talbot Green ward of the Community of Llantrisant and the Community of Pontyclun to form a new electoral division would give a total electorate of 8,014 (8,767 projected) which, if represented by 3 councillors, would result in a level of representation of 2,671 electors per councillor which is 16% above the current county average of 2,304 electors per councillor. We put this scheme forward as a proposal. This proposal combines a single member electoral division and a multimember electoral division to form a new multi-member division. We have given the proposed electoral division a working name of Pontyclun although we would welcome any suggestions for alternative names.
