Pontyclun Community Council was first formed in 1985 and consists of 10 elected Community Councillors . It also employs a Handyman and a Clerk, plus casual staff. The Community Councillors are residents of the area who act on behalf of local people to try and preserve the best aspects of the villages, while also encouraging and supporting developments that will benefit the whole community and ensure that it will continue to thrive. The Community Council monitors all local planning applications and, where appropriate, suggests amendments or submits written objections.
Following our 'Have Your Say Days' in 2005 and 2007 we have developed plans to enhance the physical environment and thus make Pontyclun an even better place in which to live, visit and work. A general interest in maintaining and improving the environment has already led to the provision and maintenance of flower beds, tubs and hanging baskets in the villages.
However, we are not just dealing with environmental improvements. Like all of you who live here, we recognise there are fundamental and longer-term changes needed to, among other things, youth facilities and traffic congestion. We have limited powers in these areas, but are working with other organisations to promote much-needed action and ensure Pontyclun's specific needs are fully understood.
The Community Council is funded by a precept, which is raised from a tax paid by all householders. A proportion of this precept is used to provide grant funding for causes or projects that are for the common good of the residents of the area.
